BRITISH WHITE CATTLE

British Whites are a traditional dual-purpose breed originally thought to have been brought to our islands by the Vikings although the foundation cattle, and for most of the country, arrived from Lancashire in Norfolk around 1800.

They are naturally polled which means they have no horns, are of medium size and thrifty in forage consumption and are not fed concentrates. The cattle graze marshland in the summer and conserved grass in the form of haylage when housed in a barn in the winter months. The farmland operates under a Higher Level Stewardship scheme which means minimal intervention and no fertilizer is used.

As a suckler herd the calves suckle until weaned at about 8 months of age. We have one bull.

The cattle are quiet and used to people with viewing by appointment, but please no dogs.
